“Your son has kidney cancer.” Those words will forever live rent free in Jessica’s head. He was only 3. Tre’s story — and subsequently his journey — became our mission.

Tre’s journey — from delayed diagnosis to surgery at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, 44 weeks of chemotherapy, and witnessing Tre’s resiliency through it all — inspired our mission: to help families recognize the signs, advocate for early surveillance, and never face this alone.

OUR STORY

Turning Pain into Purpose

In July 2025, Jessica noticed a bulge on Tre’s abdomen while giving him a bath. She followed her instincts and took him to the ER. That one decision arguably saved our boy’s life.

Tre was born in Hawaii in 2022 with hemihypertrophy — asymmetrical growth that we later learned carries a significantly elevated risk for childhood kidney cancer.

For three years, Tre thrived. He was always a large baby who never complained of pain. We had no roadmap, no warning, no reason to believe anything was wrong — until the words that shattered our world: “Tre has cancer.”
What followed was 44 weeks of chemotherapy, multiple surgeries across two states, and a 3-year-old boy who faced it all with more courage than most adults ever will.

Dr. David Singleton

Co-Founder, Board Member & Tre’s Father

David is Tre’s father and co-founder of Tre’s Check the Kidneys Foundation. Inspired by Tre’s journey, he helped create the foundation to increase awareness of pediatric kidney cancer and support families navigating life-changing diagnoses. He is passionate about ensuring parents have the knowledge, community, and resources needed to advocate for their children. The foundation’s mission is personal to David because it was born from his family’s experience and a desire to help others facing similar challenges.

Dr. Jessica Singleton

Co-Founder, Board Member & Tre’s Mother

Jessica is Tre’s mother and co-founder of Tre’s Check the Kidneys Foundation. Following Tre’s Wilms tumor diagnosis, she experienced firsthand the challenges, uncertainty, and emotional toll families face during a pediatric cancer journey. She helped establish the foundation to raise awareness, empower parents to advocate for their children, and ensure families have access to the support and resources they need. For Jessica, this mission is deeply personal because it reflects her family’s story.

Dr. Erica Cacciatore

Board Member

Erica is a dentist, wife, and mother who is passionate about helping families navigate difficult seasons with greater support and understanding. After witnessing Tre’s journey and the strength required of both Tre and his family, she felt called to support the foundation’s mission.
As a parent herself, Erica understands the importance of advocating for children and ensuring families have access to timely care, trusted information, and the right specialists. She joined Tre’s Check The Kidneys Foundation to help raise awareness, support families facing pediatric kidney cancer, and ensure no parent has to navigate that journey alone.

Dr. Kandis Carter

Board Member

Dr. Kandis Carter is a native of Southeast Louisiana and currently an orthodontic resident at Howard University College of Dentistry. A former U.S. Navy Dental Officer, she became close friends with the Singleton family while stationed in Hawaii and has known Tre since birth.
Having witnessed Tre’s journey and the strength of his family firsthand, Dr. Carter proudly serves on the Board of Directors of Tre’s Check the Kidneys Foundation to help raise awareness of pediatric kidney cancer and support families facing similar challenges.
